Apple leads the world in smartphones, smartwatches, and wireless headphones. But the company knows it can’t rely on the iPhone forever. To stay ahead, Apple is already working on the next big product: smart glasses.
Over the years, technology has evolved from desktop computers to laptops, then to smartphones. Each step made devices smaller, more portable, and powerful. Now, Apple believes smart glasses will be the future computer that everyone will want to wear.
Apple’s Senior Vice President Eddy Cue recently said, “You may not need an iPhone 10 years from now, as crazy as it sounds.” That future could come with smart glasses that sit comfortably in front of your eyes and work hands-free. Imagine having a large virtual screen floating right before you, doing everything your iPhone does today—without needing to pull out your phone or use your hands.
Many people spend four to five hours a day looking at their phones. Apple knows the next big device must include a screen. That’s why Apple’s smart glasses will offer some of the most convenient screens ever made, making them a true successor to the iPhone.
Apple has two smart glasses projects. First is the Vision Pro headset, a powerful augmented reality (AR) device. Although it’s bulky now, Apple aims to make it smaller and lighter over time. However, this may take years.
Meanwhile, Apple is also developing simpler smart glasses for release as early as 2026. These will likely use Siri and AI for tasks like making calls, playing music, giving directions, and recognizing objects. They may not have a screen at first but will build on Apple’s AI work.
Apple plans for these two products to evolve and eventually merge into sleek, lightweight smart glasses. These will become the must-have computer of the 2030s, replacing the iPhone as we know it.
