Apple is reportedly making big design changes to the iPhone 17, moving away from its years-old design.
A new leak suggests that the standard iPhone 17 will have a camera module enclosed in a black bar, similar to Google’s Pixel lineup.
New Camera Layout for iPhone 17
According to tipster Majin Bu, Apple will redesign the camera placement on the iPhone 17. The black bar will house the camera system, making it look more in line with the iPhone 17 Pro models.
Unlike the Pro models, the iPhone 17 will have a new camera layout, swapping the positions of the main and ultra-wide sensors. This change is reportedly to make room for the Dynamic Island components.
The iPhone 17 Air, a rumored smaller and lighter version, will also have a rectangular camera module but with a single sensor.
Meanwhile, the Pro models will keep their triple-camera setup but may come with a larger camera housing.
Why Apple Might Be Changing the iPhone 17 Design
Apple has kept the same iPhone design for years, but weak iPhone 16 sales may have pushed the company to rethink its approach.
Initially, reports suggested that Apple would keep the same external design for another year, but the iPhone 17 may now introduce a new look.
While leaks hint at these changes, Apple could still decide to stick with the current design. However, the company needs fresh innovation to keep customers interested in its next-generation iPhones.
More details about the iPhone 17 lineup should emerge in the coming months.
