Apple is reportedly working on a smart doorbell camera equipped with Face ID technology, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

This innovative device is designed to automatically unlock doors when a resident looks at the camera, mirroring the functionality of Face ID on iPhones.

The camera will utilize Apple’s Secure Enclave chip, ensuring biometric data is stored and processed securely, separate from other system hardware.

The doorbell camera is expected to be compatible with third-party HomeKit smart locks, making it a flexible addition to existing smart home setups.

Apple may also collaborate with a smart lock manufacturer to offer a complete system upon release.

Connectivity is likely to be powered by Apple’s new “Proxima” Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip, which is rumored to debut in upcoming HomePod Mini and Apple TV devices.

This device is part of Apple’s broader push into the smart home market, which includes plans for new smart home cameras, an Apple-branded TV, and smart displays.

The displays may feature innovative designs, such as one that magnetically attaches to wall mounts or speaker bases, and another mounted on a robotic arm for enhanced usability.

The Face ID doorbell camera is expected to launch by late 2025, signaling Apple’s continued focus on expanding its smart home ecosystem.
