Apple has decided to delay the release of its upcoming bezel-free iPhone, which was expected to be the successor to the Dynamic Island feature on the iPhone.
The new design would offer a true fullscreen display with no bezels and an under-display camera system. However, the company has struggled with the technology needed to perfect the display.
While similar displays have been used in phones like Samsung’s Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, Apple wants to ensure that the display is flawless.
The company is working with suppliers like Samsung Display and LG Display to develop the OLED panel.
However, there are challenges, such as the warped effect on the sides of the display caused by the optical clear adhesive. A
dditionally, reshaping internal circuitry and dealing with the increased fragility of the display are other issues Apple is addressing.
Apple’s goal is to create a perfect, uninterrupted display. The company has reportedly been in talks with suppliers about the technology but is still working to overcome these hurdles.
As a result, the bezel-free iPhone is not expected to arrive until 2027 at the earliest.
This delay means that the next iPhone models, including the iPhone 16, will not feature the bezel-free design.
However, if Apple succeeds in 2027, the bezel-free iPhone could be a revolutionary product, setting new standards for smartphone design.
