Apple’s first-generation Vision Pro headset may have ceased production, following reports of reduced demand and production cuts.
In October, The Information reported that Apple had scaled back production and might stop making the current version by the end of 2024. With the year now ending, it’s likely that production has been halted.
Reports indicate that production cuts began in early summer, and Apple now has enough units in stock to meet demand through 2025.
The Vision Proโs weak demand has been attributed to its high price of $3,499 and a lack of content.
Suppliers have produced between 500,000 to 600,000 units, and some factories suspended production in May due to weak sales forecasts.
Apple is also reportedly suspending work on the second-generation Vision Pro for a year to focus on a lower-cost headset.
Despite the halt on the second-gen model, Apple may release an incremental update, possibly featuring an M5 chip, between fall 2025 and spring 2026.
This update will likely reuse components from the first-generation Vision Pro to manage surplus inventory.
