Samsung’s upcoming XR headset, codenamed Project Moohan, is set to launch in the next 12 months.
While details on the hardware are still limited, a recent update from the Android XR developer blog offers a glimpse into the headset’s interface and apps, giving us an early idea of what to expect.
Interface and Modes: Home Space vs Full Space
The six-second video shared by Google shows app windows displayed over real-world surroundings. The interface will feature two modes: Home Space and Full Space.
Home Space allows for multitasking with multiple app windows, while Full Space offers a single window at a time with a virtual background.
Home Space will be the default mode, providing a more immersive, multitasking experience.
Samsung’s Take on Android XR
While the Android XR interface is shown in the demo, Samsung’s version might include design tweaks, especially considering its unique One UI interface on Galaxy phones.
It’s possible that the app windows on Samsung’s headset could differ slightly in design from the stock Android XR version.
Advanced Inputs: Hand, Eye Tracking, and More
Android XR will support various input methods, including hand and eye tracking, voice control, keyboard and mouse, and dedicated controllers.
A gesture control feature, similar to Apple’s pinch gesture on the Vision Pro and Apple Watch 9, will also be available, enhancing the user experience.
What’s Next for Project Moohan
Samsung is expected to reveal more about Project Moohan at CES 2025, starting on January 7.
With this preview, we can look forward to more details about the headset’s design, features, and how Samsung plans to integrate Android XR into the XR space.
