Android Will Soon Log You In Instantly on New Devices

57
Welcome to Android

Android users will soon find it easier to set up new phones. Google is introducing a Restore Credentials feature, which will automatically log users into apps when switching devices.

The feature works through Android’s backup and restore process, which will now include “restore keys” to handle app sign-ins.

Google says the process will be seamless, with no extra steps needed from users. Once set up, the new phone will sync notifications and apps just like the old one.

While developers will need to add support for this feature, many apps will pick up the restore keys automatically when launched on the new phone. There’s also an option to transfer keys directly between devices.

This update puts Android closer to iOS, which has long offered easy credential transfers, and helps users who reset their phones or switch devices.
