In a major move, Amazon MGM Studios will take creative control of the James Bond franchise. This decision marks a new era for the 007 films. Long-time producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, who have overseen the series for decades, are stepping back from their roles.

Under a new agreement, Amazon MGM, Wilson, and Broccoli will form a joint venture to manage the James Bond rights. While all three will still co-own the franchise, Amazon MGM will now lead the creative direction of the iconic spy series.

Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, expressed excitement about the change, stating, “James Bond has been one of the most iconic characters in film for over 60 years. We’re honored to continue this legacy and bring the next chapter of 007 to audiences worldwide.”

Wilson shared his thoughts, saying, “After nearly 60 years in the Bond world, it’s time for me to step back. Barbara and I agree that it’s Amazon’s turn to guide the franchise into the future.”

Broccoli also commented, “I’ve dedicated my life to preserving the legacy of Bond. With Michael retiring, it’s time for me to focus on other projects.”

In 2022, Amazon bought MGM for $8.5 billion, gaining the rights to the James Bond films and more. The last Bond movie, No Time to Die (2021), earned $775 million, but since then, there have been no updates on the next film or a new actor to replace Daniel Craig as Bond.

This shift signals a new chapter for 007, with Amazon MGM leading the way. Fans will now be waiting to see what’s next for the legendary spy.
