After War Delays, Tehran Season 3 May Finally Air Worldwide

After nearly two years of silence, the acclaimed Apple TV+ spy drama Tehran is reportedly close to making its long-delayed return to international audiences.

According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Apple is preparing to release the show’s third season globally “in the coming months.” The season, which focuses on Iran’s nuclear program, has already aired in Israel, but Apple had paused its international rollout due to the outbreak of the Gaza war in October 2023.

Season 3 of Tehran was originally slated for release in April 2024, but Apple postponed it following Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel and the resulting regional conflict. With tensions now potentially easing and the war nearing a final phase, Apple appears to be revisiting its release plans.

The show is widely regarded as one of Apple TV+’s best international dramas, praised for its sharp writing and timely geopolitical themes. It has even won the International Emmy Award for Best Drama.

Season 3 introduces Hugh Laurie as a South African nuclear inspector and continues the show’s tradition of mirroring real-world events. Previous seasons featured storylines involving Israeli airstrikes and targeted assassinations, echoing later headlines. Season 3 is said to revolve around uranium enrichment and underground nuclear facilities, reflecting recent reports of Israeli and U.S. military activity near Iranian nuclear sites.

Tehran tells the story of a Mossad agent infiltrating Iran and has drawn comparisons to another Apple TV+ favorite, Slow Horses. Its return is expected to re-engage fans just as production on Season 4 begins this fall in Athens.

Apple has not officially confirmed a global release date, but the series is expected to return soon.
