iPhone Ultra? New Foldable Rumours Reveal Big Changes

Rumours about Apple foldable iPhone are heating up fast. Reports say the device has moved into a new testing phase. This stage usually comes just before mass production, which means things are getting serious.

A New Name Could Be Coming

One big change is the possible name. Instead of “iPhone Fold,” leaks suggest Apple could call it the iPhone Ultra. That would match Apple’s premium branding and help avoid confusion with rivals like Samsung Galaxy Fold. With a price expected above $2,000, “Ultra” sounds like a better fit.

A Smaller Phone That Opens Big

Design leaks show a compact device when closed and a tablet-like screen when open. The phone may have a 5.5-inch outer display. When unfolded, it could stretch to around 7.8 inches. That is close to a small tablet and slightly smaller than the iPad mini.

Apple Takes a Different Approach

Unlike other foldables, Apple is said to use a wider 4:3 aspect ratio. Most foldable phones are tall and narrow. Apple’s version could feel more like a mini tablet, which may help with apps and media.

Thin Design Brings Big Trade-Offs

The phone could be extremely thin at just 4.5mm when open. That sounds impressive, but it comes with compromises. Reports say there may be no Face ID. Instead, Apple could bring back Touch ID due to limited space for sensors.

Camera and Build Details

Leaks point to a dual-camera setup with a small camera bump. It will not stretch across the back like some current models. The thin body may also limit how advanced the camera system can be.

Release Date Is Still Unclear

There is still confusion about when the device will launch. Some reports say it could arrive with the iPhone 18 Pro in September. Others claim delays could push it to late 2026 or even 2027. Analysts like Mark Gurman believe it will arrive around the same time as the next iPhones.

Supply Could Be Limited

Even if it launches this year, getting one might be hard. Foldable tech is complex, and production is not easy. Experts like Ming-Chi Kuo have warned about possible shortages that could last into 2027.

Price Will Be Premium

The biggest shock could be the price. Reports suggest it will cost more than $2,000. Some estimates go even higher, up to $2,300. That would make it one of the most expensive iPhones ever.
