Sony has announced a major price increase for its PlayStation 5 consoles. The new prices will take effect from April 2 and will impact buyers worldwide.

The standard PS5 will now cost $649.99, up from $549.99. The Digital Edition will rise to $599.99, while the high-end PlayStation 5 Pro will jump to $899.99, making it one of the most expensive mainstream consoles yet.

Sony is also increasing the price of the PlayStation Portal. The handheld accessory will now cost $249.99 instead of $199.99.

This marks the second price hike in less than a year. The company had already raised prices by $50 across all models back in August 2025.

Sony said the decision comes due to “continued pressures in the global economic landscape.” The company added that the move was necessary to keep delivering high-quality gaming experiences.

The price increase is not limited to the United States. New prices have also been confirmed for regions like the UK, Europe, and Japan, showing a global shift.

Sony is not alone in raising prices. Microsoft recently increased the cost of its Xbox consoles and accessories. Nintendo has also raised prices for its Switch in some markets.

Reports suggest that rising costs of hardware, including RAM, are putting pressure on console makers. There are also claims that Sony may delay its next-generation PlayStation to 2028 or later.

For now, gamers looking to buy a PS5 will have to pay more, as rising costs continue to hit the gaming industry.
