Sony has released the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker for the first time in five years.
The trailer shows Spider-Man seeking help from Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner and Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. Parker struggles to rebuild his life after the events of No Way Home. He also faces mysterious physical problems linked to a “spider life cycle” crisis.
Zendaya reprises her role as MJ. Industry sources say her part is smaller than in previous films.
The film serves as a prequel to Avengers: Doomsday, which opens in December. It is Holland’s final standalone Spider-Man film under his current contract.
Destin Daniel Cretton directs. He previously made Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings for Marvel.
The story takes place four years after No Way Home. The world has forgotten Peter Parker exists. He now protects New York anonymously while investigating a crime spree.
The cast includes Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, and Michael Mando.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in cinemas on July 31.
