Spotify may soon fix one of the most frustrating limits on its mobile app.
The music streaming app is working on bringing “Playlist folders” to Android and iOS. This feature has existed since 2010, but users can only create and manage folders on desktop or web. On mobile, you can see folders, but you cannot edit them.
That could soon change.
New code found inside the latest version of the Spotify app suggests users will be able to create folders directly from their phone. The code shows options to name folders, move playlists into them, and remove playlists from them.
There are also options to rename or delete folders. A warning message appears to confirm if users want to delete a folder and all playlists inside it.
If this update rolls out, it will make playlist management much easier. Many users mainly use Spotify on their phones and rarely open the desktop app.
Spotify has not officially announced the feature yet. Since this information comes from app code, it is possible the feature may change or not launch at all.
But if it does arrive, it will solve a problem fans have complained about for more than a decade.
