Hailey Bieber has made a generous donation to support the family of Eric Dane following his death on February 19 after a year-long battle with ALS.
The 53-year-old actor, known for his role as McSteamy on Grey’s Anatomy and Cal Jacobs on Euphoria, passed away 10 months after publicly announcing his amyotrophic lateral sclerosis diagnosis.
A GoFundMe was set up to assist Dane’s two teenage daughters, Billie and Georgia, covering housing and other expenses. The original goal was $250,000, but celebrity donations quickly pushed the total higher.
Bieber contributed $20,000 (£14,837), bringing the campaign to $277,509. The GoFundMe goal has since been increased to $500,000. Sam Levinson, creator of Euphoria, and his wife Ashley also donated $27,000, honoring their close friend.
Levinson shared a heartfelt statement: “I’m heartbroken by the loss of our dear friend Eric. Working with him was an honor. Being his friend was a gift. Eric’s family is in our prayers. May his memory be for a blessing.”
Dane continued filming Euphoria’s third season in his wheelchair as his ALS progressed. The disease, which affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, leads to muscle weakness, difficulty speaking and swallowing, and eventually impacts breathing.
Though ALS typically allows a three-to-five-year life expectancy, Dane’s courage and determination to continue working highlighted his resilience. The GoFundMe now serves as a lasting support for his daughters during this difficult time.
