Hamilton May Quit Ferrari If 2026 Car Fails to Impress in Bahrain Testing

Lewis Hamilton’s future at Ferrari is under intense scrutiny after a disappointing 2025 season with zero podiums. The upcoming 2026 pre-season testing in Bahrain may decide whether the seven-time World Champion continues racing.

Insiders say Hamilton’s commitment to Ferrari depends on the car’s performance under the new 2026 technical rules. If the power unit and chassis do not show championship potential, he may retire rather than face another year in the midfield.

Leading bookmakers now list Hamilton as odds-on (4/5) to retire before the end of 2026, reflecting growing concern over his patience. Rumors also suggest he could leave if Ferrari pursues a management shakeup, including the possible appointment of former Red Bull boss Christian Horner.

The 2025 season was Hamilton’s worst in 19 years, with 0 podiums, a 6th-place finish, and a visible frustration that worried fans and insiders alike.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur remains confident, stating Hamilton brings “positive energy” while helping fix the SF-25’s aerodynamic flaws. Ferrari has focused development on the 2026 car since last April.

If Hamilton exits, young driver Ollie Bearman is considered the top candidate to fill the iconic Ferrari seat.
