Netflix has signed a major global streaming deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment worth more than $7 billion. The multi-year agreement gives Netflix exclusive worldwide Pay-1 streaming rights to Sony’s theatrical films after their cinema and home release windows.
This is the first global deal of its kind for Sony. Under the agreement, Netflix will stream Sony movies across all markets once local rights become available.
The deal expands on an earlier U.S. and limited international agreement from 2022, which was valued at $2.5 billion over five years. The new contract now covers full global distribution.
The rollout will begin later in 2026, as existing regional licenses expire. Worldwide coverage is expected by early 2029, and the agreement will run through 2032.
Netflix executive Lauren Smith said the partnership adds strong value for members worldwide. She noted that Sony films like Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse have already performed well with Netflix viewers.
Sony executive Paul Littmann said the deal strengthens the long-term partnership and shows the continued global appeal of Sony’s theatrical releases.
Upcoming Sony titles expected to stream exclusively on Netflix include Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda, and Sam Mendes’ Beatles biopic series. Other films like The Nightingale and animated features from Sony Pictures Animation are also included.
Several recent Sony hits — including Uncharted, Anyone But You, and Venom: The Last Dance — have already seen strong success on Netflix. With this deal, Netflix cements its position as the main streaming home for Sony’s biggest franchises, raising the stakes in the global streaming race.
