House Democrats released new photos and videos on Wednesday showing the inside of Jeffrey Epstein’s private Caribbean island. The materials offer a rare look at the property where Epstein was accused of trafficking young girls.
The images were taken in 2020 by law enforcement in the US Virgin Islands, one year after Epstein died in jail. They show several parts of his home, including bedrooms, a phone, an office-like room, and a chalkboard with words like “fin”, “intellectual”, “deception”, and “power”. One room shows a dentist chair and masks hanging on the wall.
The videos include walk-through footage of the property.
Epstein owned two islands in the US Virgin Islands, including Little St James. Local residents had long referred to it as “pedophile island”. In 2022, the US Virgin Islands reached a settlement of more than $100m with Epstein’s estate over allegations that young women and children were trafficked and abused there.
Although the newly released images do not provide new information, they come as Congress increases pressure on the Justice Department. Lawmakers want the department to meet a 19 December deadline to release related files. A bipartisan group of members of Congress also asked US attorney general Pam Bondi for a status update.
Representative Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the House oversight committee, said the release was meant to support transparency. “These new images are a disturbing look into the world of Jeffrey Epstein and his island,” he said. “We are committed to delivering justice for the survivors.”
Garcia also said the committee recently received records from JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank, which will be released soon.
