President Donald Trump reportedly posted a private message intended for U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi on his Truth Social account by mistake, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
The post, published on September 20, appeared to be a direct message to Bondi, urging her to use the Justice Department to prosecute Trump’s political opponents, including former FBI Director James Comey, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and Sen. Adam Schiff.
In the message, Trump expressed anger over what he called delays in taking action against those who had investigated him. “We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation,” he wrote. “They impeached me twice and indicted me five times. Justice must be served now!”
Sources told the Journal that Trump believed he was sending the message privately to Bondi and was surprised to learn it had been posted publicly. Bondi reportedly called the White House after noticing the post, upset that it had been made public. Trump later followed up with another post praising her for doing a “GREAT job.”
Soon after, Lindsay Halligan, a pro-Trump attorney with no prior experience as a prosecutor, was appointed as the U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia. Within days, Comey was indicted on federal charges of obstruction of justice and making false statements.
By October 9, Letitia James had also been indicted on charges of bank fraud and false statements to a financial institution.
The apparent mistake has raised new concerns about how the Trump administration uses social media for government communication. The incident has been compared to “Signalgate,” a past controversy in which senior officials accidentally shared sensitive war plans in an unsecured group chat.
