Sydney Sweeney Highlights Double Standard in Bathwater Soap Campaign Criticism

Actress Sydney Sweeney has addressed criticism over her Dr. Squatch bathwater soap campaign, highlighting what she sees as a double standard in public reactions.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Sweeney noted, “It was mainly the girls making comments about it, which I thought was really interesting. They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.”

The campaign, launched in July 2024, featured Sweeney promoting a soap infused with her “bathwater,” a playful marketing tactic by Dr. Squatch. While some praised its humor, others criticized it as objectifying and catering to the “male gaze,” arguing it conflicted with feminist principles. Critics referenced her past roles on Euphoria and The White Lotus in the debate.

Sweeney contrasted the reaction to her campaign with memes about her Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi, which did not receive comparable backlash. She emphasized that her projects aim to reclaim agency over her public image.

The 27-year-old actress continues to balance acting with her production company, Fifty-Fifty Films, and upcoming roles in The Housemaid and Echo Valley. Social media reactions remain mixed, with some defending her entrepreneurial spirit while others question the campaign’s messaging.
