Google has announced the Pixel Buds 2a, its latest budget-friendly wireless earbuds, priced at $129. The new model introduces Active Noise Cancelation (ANC), Google’s Gemini AI support, and a replaceable case battery, bringing several premium features to a lower price point.
The Pixel Buds 2a succeed the Pixel Buds A-series, which debuted in 2021, and were revealed at the company’s Made by Google event alongside the Pixel 10 series and Pixel Watch 4. Pre-orders begin immediately, with availability from 9 October 2025.
Key Features
The Pixel Buds 2a are Google’s first affordable earbuds to offer ANC, branded as Silent Seal 1.5. While not as advanced as the Silent Seal 2.0 used in the Pixel Buds Pro 2, the feature promises improved listening in noisy environments.
The earbuds are powered by Google’s Tensor A1 chip, enabling Gemini AI integration. Users can access features such as message summaries, schedule checks, and recommendations directly through the earbuds without using their phone.
Battery life is rated at up to seven hours with ANC enabled, and up to 20 hours with the charging case. With ANC off, performance nearly doubles compared to the first-generation A-series.
A notable addition is the replaceable case battery, meaning users can replace the battery without discarding the entire case — a first for Google’s earbud lineup.
Design and Durability
The design mirrors the Pixel Buds Pro 2, featuring a stemless build, a twist-to-fit design, and an oval-shaped case. The earbuds are IP54-rated for resistance to sweat and light rain, making them suitable for workouts and outdoor use.
The Pixel Buds 2a will be available in two colours, Iris and Hazel.
Pixel Buds Pro 2 Updates
Google also introduced updates to its premium Pixel Buds Pro 2. A new Moonstone colour will be released on 28 August 2025 at $229. In addition, features such as Adaptive Audio, Loud Noise Protection, and gesture controls — including nodding to accept calls and shaking your head to decline them — will roll out next month.
Outlook
With ANC, AI-powered features, and a more sustainable design at a competitive price, the Pixel Buds 2a aim to challenge rivals in the mid-range wireless earbuds market.
