Marijuana Could Be Reclassified as Trump Explores New Laws

President Trump

President Donald Trump is thinking about relaxing marijuana laws in the United States. Right now, marijuana is a Schedule I drug, which means the law says it is addictive and very dangerous. Medical use of marijuana is not accepted under federal law.

At a recent White House press conference, Trump said his administration is looking at the possibility of reclassifying marijuana. He said this process is still early and no final decision has been made yet.

“We’re looking at it,” Trump said. “Some people like it, some people hate it. It’s a very complicated subject.” He mentioned hearing both good things about medical marijuana and bad things about other uses.

The president’s comments came shortly after he attended a fundraiser that cost $1 million to enter. Many important people from the marijuana industry were there.

If marijuana is reclassified, it could lead to tax benefits for marijuana companies and reduce some criminal penalties. However, marijuana would still remain illegal for recreational use under federal law.

Many states already have their own marijuana laws, and several have legalized it for medical and recreational use.
