Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro has shared the first images from his upcoming movie Frankenstein, a new take on Mary Shelley’s famous novel.
The film stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, a scientist obsessed with creating life, and Jacob Elordi as the Monster, who struggles to understand his place in the world. The story explores deep themes like identity, loneliness, and the consequences of playing god.
The newly released photos show a dark and gothic world. They feature shadowy labs, misty landscapes, and detailed costumes that match del Toro’s well-known fantasy style.
Mia Goth plays Victor’s fiancée, Elizabeth Lavenza, while Christoph Waltz appears in a mystery role. Del Toro has called Frankenstein a personal project and promises a faithful version of the story, with emotional depth and rich visuals.
The film will premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September 2025. It will then stream on Netflix starting November 2025. Scenes were filmed in remote parts of Scotland and Canada, chosen for their bleak and haunting beauty.
Del Toro’s Frankenstein will revisit a timeless story that still speaks to today’s world, exploring the cost of human ambition and the need for connection.
