CD Projekt Red Shuts Down Fan Hopes for Cyberpunk 2077 Third-Person View

CD Projekt Red, the developer of Cyberpunk 2077, has confirmed it will not add a third-person camera mode to the game. The announcement came shortly after the release of Patch 2.3, which introduced several new features but left out the much-requested camera option.

The statement was made on the official Cyberpunk 2077 X (formerly Twitter) account. In response to a fan asking for third-person gameplay, the company replied, “Sorry, we have no such plans.” This is the first time CD Projekt Red has directly ruled out the possibility, despite past discussions hinting at its challenges.

Patch 2.3 is now live on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The update allows players to customize motorcycles, use an AutoDrive system, and unlock new vehicles through added quests. A taxi-based fast-travel feature has also been introduced.

The game has been designed entirely around a first-person perspective since its release in 2020. During a 2023 investor conference, CD Projekt Red explained that this choice was intentional to give Cyberpunk 2077 a unique identity.

The studio said the first-person view helps distinguish the game in a crowded market, where screenshots, livestreams, and YouTube videos are key to attracting players.

Some fans have used PC mods to try third-person gameplay, but many report it feels awkward and incomplete. Developers have said that adding an official third-person mode would require a complete redesign of the game’s systems.

With no plans for a third-person update, it appears CD Projekt Red will continue focusing on smaller updates to improve the current experience, rather than changing the core gameplay.
