The latest Superman film, starring David Corenswet as Clark Kent, has opened with impressive box office numbers, earning an estimated $122 million in the United States and Canada during its opening weekend. Combined with $95 million from international markets, the film’s global ticket sales reached about $217 million by Sunday, July 13, Warner Bros. reported.
This strong debut is significant as movie theaters continue to recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Superman is one of only three films in 2025 to surpass $100 million in domestic ticket sales, demonstrating its appeal despite competition from streaming platforms.
Directed and written by James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios since 2022, the film offers a fresh interpretation of the iconic superhero. Gunn highlighted that this version focuses on Superman’s humanity and kindness rather than just his superpowers. “A kind person always looking out for those in need,” Gunn said, a theme that has connected with audiences around the world.
