New YouTube Music Update Makes Shuffle, Repeat Easier to Spot

YouTube Music is making small but welcome improvements to its user interface. The latest update introduces clearer shuffle and repeat buttons, helping users more easily see when these features are turned on.

Previously, the shuffle and repeat buttons next to the play controls would only appear slightly bolder when active. This subtle design, based on YouTube’s thin, outline-style icons, often left users unsure whether the features were enabled.

With the new design, a small white dot appears below the buttons when they are active, making the status more obvious at a glance. The change still includes the bold icon style, and the repeat-one option (“1”) remains visually unchanged. This update is part of YouTube Music version 8.26 for Android, but it is being rolled out gradually via a server-side update.

In addition to the button redesign, YouTube Music is testing a new “Make a quick start radio” card on the Home feed. This feature allows users to quickly generate a personalized radio station by selecting from a list of eight suggested artists. A “More” option gives access to the full Radio creator, where users can also pick songs and albums.

Another feature, “Releases for you,” is now widely available. It appears at the bottom of album pages across Android, iOS, and the web, offering tailored music recommendations based on user preferences.

These updates come as users continue to wait for a larger redesign of the Now Playing screen, which is expected in a future release.
