Marvel Fast-Tracks Daredevil Season 2 Amid Street-Level MCU Shift

Marvel’s Daredevil: Born Again is breaking the usual long waits for streaming series by releasing its second season just one year after the first. Season 2 has officially wrapped filming and is scheduled to premiere in March 2026.

The quick turnaround is a surprise for a major Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) series. Most streaming shows now take between 1.5 to 3 years between seasons. In contrast, Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 finished filming in April 2024 and was released in March 2025. Season 2 wrapped filming this July and is on track to meet its planned March 2026 release.

Marvel reportedly approved two seasons from the start, allowing early writing and filming. This production strategy is similar to Apple TV’s Slow Horses, which also maintains short gaps between seasons. Unlike that show’s six-episode runs, Daredevil will return with nine episodes, making the achievement more notable.

Season 2 will see the return of Jon Bernthal as the Punisher and will introduce Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones into the series. These characters originally appeared in Netflix’s Marvel shows and are now being reintroduced into the MCU. The move suggests a renewed focus on street-level heroes rather than cosmic or multiverse storylines.

While fan excitement is strong, Daredevil: Born Again faces a challenge with viewership. The first season, a sequel to the original series that ended in 2018, opened with 7.5 million views in its first five days. It was the biggest Disney+ premiere of the year at the time, but it did not appear on Nielsen’s streaming charts and trailed other Marvel titles like Agatha All Along.

Marvel’s shift back to grounded, character-driven stories began with Echo and now centers around Daredevil, with signs that other Defenders characters may return. Actors who played Luke Cage and Iron Fist have expressed interest in reprising their roles.

Whether this strategy continues may depend on how Season 2 performs when it hits screens next year.
