The upcoming prequel series to The Boys, titled Vought Rising, will start filming in New York next week, according to lead actor Jensen Ackles. The show, set in the 1950s, will explore the origins of Vought International and feature Ackles as Soldier Boy and Aya Cash as Stormfront, reprising their roles from the original series.
Ackles confirmed the production timeline during an interview on LIVE with Kelly and Mark. He described Vought Rising as a “twisted murder mystery” that will delve into the early days of Vought and the exploits of Soldier Boy and Stormfront, then known as Clara Vought. The series promises to maintain the dark, irreverent tone of The Boys, with Ackles noting it will be “as demented” as the flagship show.
Showrunner Paul Grellong, alongside executive producers including Ackles, Cash, and The Boys creator Eric Kripke, will helm the project. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. New cast members include Elizabeth Posey, known for Euphoria, and Will Hochman from Blue Bloods, though their roles remain undisclosed.
Filming is scheduled to run from August to December 2025, with a potential streaming premiere on Prime Video in late 2026 or early 2027, based on production timelines of previous The Boys seasons. The series will also feature Mason Dye as Bombsight, with additional casting expected as production ramps up.
The Boys universe continues to expand, with Vought Rising joining other spinoffs like Gen V and The Boys: Mexico. The flagship series, now in its fifth and final season, has drawn significant viewership, with over 1 billion weekly viewing minutes in the U.S. for its fourth season.
