CF Montréal has signed 21-year-old Chilean goalkeeper Thomas Gillier on loan from Serie A club Bologna FC until the end of the 2025 season. The deal includes an option to extend the loan through 2026, according to reports from MLS Soccer and TSN.

Gillier began his football career in the youth academy of Universidad Católica in Chile. He made his professional league debut in February 2024 and appeared in 20 league matches during the 2024 season, keeping six clean sheets. Born in Santiago in 2004 to a French father and Chilean mother, Gillier speaks both Spanish and French. He has also represented Chile at the under-20 level.

The goalkeeper’s move to CF Montréal is facilitated by the club’s ownership connection to Bologna. Joey Saputo serves as president of CF Montréal and chairman of Bologna, helping create a pathway for player transfers between the two clubs.

Gillier’s arrival adds competition to the goalkeeper position at CF Montréal, where Canadian Jonathan Sirois has been the regular starter over the past three seasons. Sirois has played 19 of the club’s 21 matches in the 2025 season so far. Alongside Sirois, CF Montréal’s goalkeeper roster includes Sebastian Breza and Emil Gazdov.

Luca Saputo, CF Montréal’s managing director of recruitment, said the club aims to “bring healthy competition between our goalkeepers.” Gillier will be eligible to play from July 24, when the MLS Secondary Transfer Window opens.
