Famed video game creator Hideo Kojima has said he wants to continue making creative works for the rest of his life, comparing his passion to that of actor Tom Cruise.

In an interview with Japanese outlet Game*Spark, Kojima said, “I’m the same as Tom Cruise (laughs). My life has been dedicated to creating things. That is my joy. I want to create for as long as my body and brain keep working.”

The comparison refers to Cruise’s recent statement at the premiere of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, where the actor said he hopes to continue making films even into his 100s.

Kojima, best known for the Metal Gear Solid series and Death Stranding, began his career in 1986 at Konami. He has been known for pushing creative boundaries, with many of his games featuring cinematic storytelling and experimental gameplay.

While the interview focused on Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Kojima also hinted that he may one day move beyond video games. He said he wants to keep “creating,” not necessarily just games. In another recent interview with French outlet Brut, Kojima said he would consider making a film after completing his current projects with Microsoft (OD) and Sony (Physint).

Despite the cinematic quality of his games, Kojima emphasized that he still sees himself as a game developer first. “I am conscious of the fact that I am not making a movie,” he said. “My fundamental approach is to consider what can only be done in a game, including an odd sense of playfulness.”

Kojima’s games are often filled with unique Easter eggs and unexpected moments, reflecting that playful spirit. Death Stranding 2, his latest work, is expected to continue this tradition.

Though Kojima has not officially announced a movie project, he is currently involved in a planned film adaptation of Death Stranding, with actor Norman Reedus expressing interest in reprising his role.
