Apple TV+’s acclaimed sci-fi series Foundation is gearing up for its third season, but the show’s future remains uncertain despite rumors of renewal. The series, based on Isaac Asimov’s classic books, holds a 100% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes for its second season and 86% overall.
In February 2025, reports suggested that Apple TV+ had quietly greenlit a fourth season of Foundation and named Ian Goldberg as the new showrunner, taking over from David S. Goyer. However, the show’s stars say they have not received official confirmation.
Jared Harris (Hari Seldon) told TechRadar, “I probably know less than you because you’re scouring the trades every day. We’re the last people to find out what’s going on!” Lou Llobell (Gaal Dornick) added that she’s “hopeful” the show will go beyond season four and reach the previously planned eight seasons.
Lee Pace, who plays Cleon/Brother Day, shared his excitement for season 3, which features another big time jump and new directions for his character. Early reviews are positive, with critics praising the show’s epic scale, fresh plotlines, and deep emotional core. Some are already calling it the best season yet.
Despite this critical success and growing anticipation, official word from Apple on Foundation’s renewal is still pending. For now, fans can catch up on the first two seasons or look forward to season 3, which premieres July 11 on Apple TV+.
