Sony Adds Low Latency Mode, New Features to WH-1000XM6 and WF-1000XM5

Sony has rolled out new firmware updates for two of its premium wireless audio products: the WH-1000XM6 headphones and the WF-1000XM5 earbuds. Surprisingly, the WH-1000XM5 headphones were left out of this update round.

The updates—Version 2.0.2 for the WH-1000XM6 and Version 5.0.2 for the WF-1000XM5—are now available worldwide and bring several new features and improvements.

What’s New?

Both devices now support Quick Access and Scene-based Listening for Apple Music and YouTube Music. Users can also now choose from three Bluetooth connection modes:

  • Prioritize Sound Quality
  • Prioritize Stable Connection
  • Low Latency

The updates also improve system security and general performance.

WH-1000XM6 Exclusive Features:

  • New voice control languages: French, German, and Spanish
  • USB-C moisture detection that warns users if the port gets wet
  • Improved call quality with ambient sound control support for voice capture

WF-1000XM5 Enhancements:

  • New connection options for Bluetooth
  • Improved voice capture during calls
  • Better overall system stability

Update Instructions:

To install the update, users must use the Sony Headphones Connect app. Devices cannot be charging during the update process, and installation may take up to an hour.

Sony is also expected to replace the WF-1000XM5 later this year, making this likely one of the final updates for the current model.
