Judge Refuses Bail for Diddy, Citing Threat to Victims

Sean “Diddy” Combs will remain in jail until sentencing, despite being acquitted of the most serious charges against him. A New York jury found Diddy not guilty of racketeering and sex trafficking, but convicted him of transporting a person for prostitution.

Diddy’s lawyers argued for his release, saying he is not a flight risk and noting his private jet is currently chartered in Hawaii. However, Judge Arun Subramanian said Diddy must stay in federal custody because of his history of violence. He faces up to 20 years in prison at sentencing, which is scheduled for October 3.

During the nearly two-month trial, prosecutors said Diddy used his fame and business to run a criminal operation that trafficked women. They relied on testimony from more than 30 witnesses, including Diddy’s former girlfriend, Casandra Ventura. Ventura told the court Diddy pressured her into unwanted sex acts and threatened to release videos if she did not obey.

The jury deliberated for 13 hours. They could not agree on two racketeering counts, but found Diddy guilty of arranging transportation for prostitution. Diddy was found innocent of the two most severe charges, which carried sentences of up to life in prison.

After the verdict, Diddy dropped to his knees in court and appeared to pray.

Judge Subramanian denied bail, citing that even the defense admitted to violence in Diddy’s relationships. Ventura wrote to the court warning that Diddy is a danger and should not be let out.

Diddy is being held in a federal jail in Brooklyn and also faces several civil lawsuits over alleged sexual assault and violence.

Diddy, famous for founding Bad Boy Records, has long been one of the most influential figures in the hip hop industry.
