Squid Game Season 3 Teaser - Netflix

The latest season of Netflix’s hit show Squid Game has ended with a bang – and a controversy. The finale hinted at a possible US version, sparking outrage among fans.

The South Korean thriller series, which premiered globally on June 27, has been a worldwide phenomenon since its release in 2021. However, the suggestion of an American adaptation has not been well received by netizens.

The Controversy

The season 3 finale featured a surprise cameo from Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett, playing a game of ddakji in a Los Angeles alleyway. The scene ended with her slapping a man across the face and making eye contact with the show’s main antagonist, Front Man, played by Lee Byung-hun.

Many fans took to social media to express their disappointment and anger. One user wrote, “Squid Game started as an anti-capitalism movement, but now it’s just a cash cow for Netflix.” Another fan said, “The American spin-off defeats the entire purpose of the show.”

Fan Reactions

“Squid Game was an original Korean show that incorporated local kids’ games with dark themes. Season 3 was bad enough, but now it’s an introduction to the American version.”

“Squid Game USA version gives me physical cringe. Please get cancelled before it actually happens.”

“We’ll never win” – a fan lamenting the show’s shift from its original purpose to a potential cash-grab.

The show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, had previously stated that the series would conclude with season 3, with no plans for a fourth installment. However, the finale’s hint at a US version has left fans fuming.
