Spotify May Let Users Remove the Controversial “Create” Button

Spotify appears to be developing an option that would allow users to remove the widely disliked “Create” button from the app’s navigation bar, according to code found in a recent app update.

The music streaming service added the “Create” button to the bottom navigation bar to help users quickly make new playlists. However, this addition disrupted the familiar three-button layout (Home-Search-Your Library) that many users had grown accustomed to over years of use.

The change sparked significant backlash from users who complained that the additional button interfered with their muscle memory and made the app less intuitive to navigate.

Code discovered in Spotify version 9.0.58.206 suggests the company is listening to this feedback. String entries in the app’s code include references to a new toggle in settings that would control whether the Create button appears in the navigation bar.

The discovered code includes:

1<string name="settings_item_create_button_description">The Create button will appear in your navigation bar.</string>
2<string name="settings_item_create_button_title">Create button</string>

Currently, the Create button is enabled by default for all users, with no option to remove it. If implemented, this new setting would allow users to return to the original three-button navigation layout they prefer.

The feature is not yet available to users, and Spotify has not officially announced plans to make the Create button optional. However, the code suggests the company is actively working on this solution to address user complaints.
