Fans of Good Omens on Prime Video might never get to see how the story ends. Actor Michael Sheen recently said that the finale movie for the show is complete—but its release is now uncertain.
Good Omens is based on a novel by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Gaiman also worked as the showrunner for the TV series. The show told the story of Aziraphale, an angel, and Crowley, a demon, as they teamed up to stop the end of the world. The first season adapted the full story of the book. Season 2 expanded on the characters and set up a third season to wrap things up.
However, Good Omens faced major problems after Gaiman was accused of sexual abuse by several women. Gaiman denied the accusations but stepped down from the project. Producers decided to finish the story with a direct-to-streaming movie without his involvement.
Now, Michael Sheen, who plays Aziraphale, says the situation is complicated. In an interview with The Times, Sheen said, “I really don’t know what’s going to happen with it. We were both relieved we finished the story, but that’s within this really difficult, complicated, disturbing context. I hope people get to see it, but that, to a large extent, is out of our hands.”
Sheen co-stars with David Tennant, who plays Crowley. Both actors became fan favorites for their performances, especially because of the friendship between their characters.
The accusations against Gaiman were first shared publicly in a podcast series called Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman. More people came forward later, and a detailed report was published in New York Magazine. Gaiman has denied having non-consensual sex but admitted that some stories sounded partly familiar.
Other adaptations of Gaiman’s work have also been affected. Netflix canceled The Sandman in January, although its creators say that decision was unrelated. Disney canceled its planned movie of The Graveyard Book. Dark Horse Comics also ended Gaiman’s Anansi Boy comic series early.
Fans of Good Omens still hope that the finale movie will be released. But for now, its future is unclear.
