Google is reportedly bringing back a forgotten Pixel feature from 2019 with the release of the Pixel 10 series.
According to Android Authority, the feature, previously known as Ambient EQ, will return under the new name Adaptive Tone.
Ambient EQ first appeared on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, adjusting screen colors and brightness based on surrounding light, similar to Apple’s True Tone feature on iPhones and iPads. Although the feature lived on in the Pixel Tablet, it was missing from Pixel smartphones until now.
The feature’s comeback is thanks to a new ambient light and color sensor (ams TMD3743) that will be built into all Pixel 10 models — except the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. Unfortunately, older Pixel phones won’t get Adaptive Tone due to hardware limitations.
Google is expected to unveil the Pixel 10 series on August 20, 2025, with four models in total. Alongside the Adaptive Tone news, Pixel 10 Pro renders and color options have already surfaced online.
