Apple has revealed a major new design update for its software, introducing a fresh look that works across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV.

The update is built around a new material called Liquid Glass, which makes apps and screens look more vibrant, dynamic, and elegant.

For the first time, this new design will be seen across iOS 26, iPadOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, watchOS 26, and tvOS 26. The goal is to bring more harmony between Apple’s devices while still keeping the unique features of each product.

Liquid Glass gives apps a translucent look that changes based on what’s on the screen. It reacts to light, movement, and even the wallpaper in the background, creating a lively, colorful experience.

Users will notice it everywhere—from buttons and sliders to bigger parts of apps like sidebars and navigation bars.

App designs have also been updated. Controls now fit better with the rounded corners of today’s devices. Toolbars, tab bars, and sidebars now shrink or expand smoothly to help focus on content. Apps like Camera, Photos, Safari, FaceTime, and Apple Music will all use the new look.

The Lock Screen gets a refresh too. The clock is now made of Liquid Glass, adjusting itself elegantly behind photos and wallpapers. On Mac, the desktop, Dock, app icons, and widgets now have new customizable styles with clear, light, and dark looks.

For app developers, Apple has released updated tools to help bring the Liquid Glass style to their apps easily.

“This is our broadest software design update ever,” said Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of Human Interface Design. “It makes even the simplest of interactions more fun and magical.”

The new design will roll out with Apple’s upcoming software updates later this year.
