The creators and cast of Netflix’s ‘Squid Game 2′ appeared at a special FYSEE panel in Los Angeles, offering emotional reflections on the new season’s political themes, personal stories, and fan responses.
Director Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that the new season centers around the idea of elections and majority rule, saying:
“I wanted to explore whether democracy truly helps us choose the right path—or just deepens division.”
He explained that the death games in Season 2 were carefully chosen to force players to vote, mirroring real-world democratic processes.
Actor Park Sung-hoon, who plays Cho Hyun-ju, a transgender special forces agent, shared how the role changed his perspective:
“Even as a cisgender actor, I’ve received so much support from the LGBTQ+ community. I hope viewers grow to see Hyun-ju as family.”
Rapper and actor Choi Seung-hyun (T.O.P from BIGBANG) plays a troubled character named Thanos and opened up about the personal challenges in preparing for the role:
“Thanos isn’t a villain, but he is a man-child. Like me, he has a past to face. This role helped me reflect and grow.”
The panel also included Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-hun, and Kang Ae-shim, who joined production staff to discuss the impact of the show’s message and character arcs.
Lee Jung-jae even joked on the red carpet that he still hopes to see Leonardo DiCaprio in the show one day.
