Fake Avengers Set Video Fools Millions, Shows Rise of AI-Created Leaks

A fake AI-generated video claiming to show set leaks from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday went viral over the weekend, amassing over 7 million views before being flagged as artificial.

The video featured seemingly convincing scenes, including Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom and unannounced cameos from Spider-Man, Scarlet Witch, and Deadpool.

Despite appearing authentic at first glance, the video was entirely AI-generated, with telltale signs like mismatched facial features—a Thor resembling Heath Ledger and a Scarlet Witch resembling Taylor Swift.

Although some viewers eventually recognized the signs of AI manipulation, it took millions of views before community notes flagged the content as fake.

The video mimicked the familiar shaky, behind-the-scenes style of real movie leaks, making it hard to immediately distinguish from genuine footage. The rapid spread of such convincing fakes marks a concerning shift in how easily misinformation can be created and consumed online.

Interestingly, the first clue that the video was fake wasn’t visual, but logical—fans pointed out that Marvel hasn’t used practical Iron Man suits in years, instead relying entirely on CGI and motion-capture.

This incident underscores the growing challenge of AI-generated misinformation, especially in fan-driven communities eager for leaks and spoilers. As the technology improves, experts and creators warn that distinguishing real from fake content will only get harder.
