Disney’s Lilo & Stitch continues to dominate the box office in its second weekend, earning an estimated $60 million to $64 million. The film’s total now stands near $280 million domestically. It holds well with a typical drop for family hits and attracts mostly female viewers and families.

Paramount’s Mission: Impossible – Final Reckoning shows steady performance with about $26.7 million in its second weekend. IMAX screenings helped the movie slow its decline to 58%, better than the last sequel’s drop.

Sony’s Karate Kid: Legends opened with $21 million to $23 million, slightly below early forecasts. The film appeals mainly to men and older viewers. It earned strong audience grades and benefits from loyal fans of the franchise. Its international box office will be important for overall success.

A24’s horror film Bring Her Back had a modest start with $3.1 million on Friday and an expected weekend total of $7 million to $8 million. The movie received good audience reviews and gained buzz on social media.

Other films of note include New Line’s Final Destination: Bloodlines, which holds steady with $11 million in its third weekend, and Focus Features’ Wes Anderson film The Phoenician Scheme, performing well in limited release.

Overall, the post-Memorial Day weekend box office totaled about $144 million, more than twice last year’s slow post-holiday sales. The market shows strong support for family movies and established franchises.
