Nothing has officially confirmed that its next flagship, Phone 3, will launch without its iconic Glyph Interface, the signature rear lighting system that helped the brand stand out in a crowded smartphone market.

In a dramatic teaser posted on X (formerly Twitter), the company shared a video of the Phone 1’s rear lights fading out, captioned simply: “we killed the Glyph Interface.” This signals the end of the unique light-based notification and interaction system, which had been a defining feature of all previous Nothing phones.

The Glyph Interface wasn’t just for show—it provided functional lighting cues for notifications, charging status, countdown timers, and even served as camera fill lights. Users could assign custom patterns and sounds to specific contacts or apps using “Flip to Glyph” mode, which activated the lights when the phone was placed face-down.

Now, speculation is building over what Nothing plans to use in its place. Teasers for Phone 3 hint at a new interactive dot-matrix display on the back panel, featuring pixelated animations and symbols, including a glowing “3” and Pac-Man-style visuals. This suggests a major shift in the phone’s visual identity and interaction model.

While it’s unclear exactly how this new design will function, fans are hoping for a more dynamic and useful upgrade—something that keeps the spirit of innovation alive while offering more than just aesthetic appeal.

Nothing Phone 3 is set to launch in July 2025, and with the company already building hype, it’s clear that big changes are coming. Whether users will embrace the loss of the Glyph lights remains to be seen.
