Prince Harry has revealed that Meghan Markle once upset Kate Middleton with a simple two-word remark that led to royal tension and a demand for an apology.
In his 2023 memoir Spare, Harry shared that the comment happened just before his wedding to Meghan in 2018. During a visit to Kensington Palace, Meghan and Kate discussed a minor issue when Meghan jokingly said Kate must have “baby brain” after forgetting something.
Kate, who had recently given birth to Prince Louis, didn’t take the comment lightly. According to Harry, Kate said, “You talked about my hormones. We are not close enough for you to talk about my hormones!”
The Duke of Sussex wrote that Meghan meant no harm and spoke casually, as she would with her friends. But Prince William sided with Kate and pointed at Meghan, saying, “It’s not what’s done here in Britain.”
Meghan, reportedly shocked by the reaction, responded by telling William to “take your finger out of my face.” She then explained she never intended to hurt Kate and asked her to speak up if anything ever felt offensive in the future.
Harry said the tense meeting ended with a half-hearted hug between the couples.
In another part of the book, Harry described a different incident that left Meghan in tears just days before their wedding. Kate had called Meghan about a problem with Princess Charlotte’s flower girl dress. Kate believed the dresses needed to be remade and consulted designer Sarah Burton for advice.
Harry shared that Meghan was “on the floor, crying” after the discussion. However, Kate later apologized with a bouquet of flowers and a card.
Spare offered an inside look at the strained relationships within the royal family and shed new light on the events leading up to Harry and Meghan’s departure from royal duties.
