Passengers Risk $67 Fine for Boarding Etiquette Breach in Turkey

Turkey has announced a new fine for airline passengers who stand up or try to leave the plane before it has fully stopped. This common habit, seen on many flights, will now be penalized to improve safety and order.

The Turkish Directorate General of Civil Aviation said passengers who do not respect the disembarkation order will face fines. These fines can be up to 2,603 Turkish lira, about $67.

The new rule targets people who unbuckle their seat belts, open overhead bins, or crowd the aisle while the plane is still taxiing to the gate. Passengers who stand up before their row is called to exit may also be fined.

Officials say this behavior has increased and creates safety risks for both passengers and their luggage. It also disrupts the order and comfort of other travelers.

Travelers flying through Turkey are advised to stay seated until it is their turn to leave the plane to avoid this new fine.
