A popular doctor has issued a strong warning about the long-term use of Ozempic, a drug originally made for people with type 2 diabetes but now widely used for weight loss.
Ozempic has gained attention across the UK and US, especially among celebrities like Jeremy Clarkson and Amy Schumer, who have openly discussed its harsh side effects. Although it helps people lose weight by reducing appetite and slowing digestion, health experts are raising serious concerns.
In a viral YouTube short, Dr. Boz, a doctor and content creator, said the drug could cause major problems within the next 15 years. “Ozempic should not be allowed for weight loss,” she said. “When people lose weight on this drug, they are losing muscle mass at a much higher rate than normal.”
She warned that muscle loss in older adults can be dangerous and very hard to reverse. “This type of weight loss also weakens the immune system, reduces bone density, and could shorten lifespan,” she added.
A simulation video by Zack D Films recently showed how Ozempic works in the body. It suppresses hunger by affecting the brain, balances blood sugar, and keeps the stomach full longer. But it can also lead to side effects like nausea, diarrhoea, and vomiting.
Despite these risks, many still turn to Ozempic for fast results. Dr. Boz says the drug creates a “starvation” effect that is not healthy in the long run.
The manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, responded by stressing that Ozempic is a prescription-only medicine that should only be used under a doctor’s supervision. They said safety remains a top priority and that users should report side effects to healthcare providers or through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
As the debate continues, experts are urging people to think twice before using medication like Ozempic just to shed weight. The short-term results might not be worth the long-term damage.
