Sam Levinson, the creator of the hit HBO show Euphoria, is steering the third season in a fresh and daring direction. He describes this new chapter as a “film noir” style story that will focus on Zendaya’s character, Rue, and explore what it means to have principles in a corrupt world.
This change comes after major challenges behind the scenes. The tragic death of actor Angus Cloud led to script rewrites. Zendaya, who is also an executive producer, has played a key role in shaping the new season. Her input has helped guide the story’s evolution.
HBO’s chief Casey Bloys said Levinson is deeply involved in writing Season 3, but no production start date has been announced yet. The new scripts promise strong storylines for Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi’s characters, reflecting Levinson’s focus on emotional storytelling rather than political themes. Levinson said, “My interest isn’t in politics. It’s in human beings.”
Despite delays and creative changes, Levinson is committed to taking “really big swings” and surprising the audience with something new and powerful.
