Jennifer Lopez will host the 2025 American Music Awards live on Monday, May 26, from Fontainebleau Las Vegas. She will also open the show with a musical performance. But in a new interview, Lopez revealed something unexpected: “I don’t love being a host.”
Despite her honest feelings, she promised to give the role her best effort. “It felt like a good time to give it another try,” she said. This will be her second time hosting the AMAs, after first doing so in 2015.
Lopez has a long history with the AMAs. She first appeared on the show in 1991 as a backup dancer for New Kids on the Block. In 2013, she performed a special tribute to Celia Cruz, which she still considers one of her favorite performances.
She says watching legends like Diana Ross and Tina Turner as a child inspired her dreams. “Seeing people celebrated for what they do made me believe it was possible,” Lopez explained.
Now a global superstar, Lopez says her passion started early. “I think I came out of the womb dancing,” she joked. Even after a fall during a 2009 performance, she got up quickly and finished strong.
This year’s AMAs will also feature performances by Janet Jackson, Rod Stewart, Gloria Estefan, Gwen Stefani, and others.
Lopez admits hosting isn’t her favorite, but her fans can expect the same high energy and dedication she brings to everything she does.
