Fortnite Returns to the U.S. App Store After 5-Year Legal Dispute

Fortnite is officially back on the U.S. App Store after a five-year ban, following a dramatic twist in the ongoing legal battle between Apple and Epic Games. The iconic battle royale game is now available for download on both iPhone and iPad, marking a major moment in mobile gaming history.

The return comes after a judge overseeing the case pressured both companies to resolve their issues, even threatening to summon an Apple executive to testify in court. That push finally resulted in Apple approving Epic’s app submission — something it had refused to do for years.

For U.S. users, Fortnite is available with no in-app purchases through Apple. Instead, players are directed to buy in-game currency via Epic Games’ website, a change enabled by recent legal rulings that forced Apple to relax some of its App Store rules.

Meanwhile, in Europe, Fortnite can also be downloaded via the Epic Games Store, an alternative app marketplace now allowed under new EU regulations. However, the game is still not available on App Stores in other regions.

To install Fortnite, users will need iOS 17.4 or later or iPadOS 17.4 or later.

This return is not just a win for Epic — it’s a symbol of how developer rights and platform policies are continuing to evolve. And for fans of Fortnite on iOS, it’s a long-awaited victory.
