Netflix Stays Quiet as Apple Adjusts App Store Policies

Apple has been forced to change its App Store rules following a court ruling, allowing developers to include external payment links.

This change follows the decision in the Epic v. Apple case, where Apple was required to allow users to pay outside the App Store without Apple taking a commission.

While companies like Spotify, Amazon, and Patreon have quickly adopted the new rules, Netflix has chosen to wait.

Unlike Spotify, which now allows users to upgrade directly through its app, and Amazon, which has added a “Get Book” button linking to its website, Netflix is sticking with its previous approach.

Netflix’s Chief Product Officer, Eunice Kim, shared in a recent briefing that the company is “monitoring the situation closely” and has “nothing more to share at this time.”

Netflix appears to be adopting a cautious approach, possibly to avoid any risks or confusion that might come from the new policy.

Despite the change, Apple has made it clear that it disagrees with the court ruling and is appealing the decision. This shift in policy could have a lasting impact on how developers interact with users, but as Netflix’s delay shows, not every company is eager to embrace it right away.
