Marvel Studios has rebranded its latest film Thunderbolts as The New Avengers just days after its theatrical release, causing a wave of reactions from fans around the world.
Digital billboards, posters, and online platforms are now using the updated title, revealing a major plot twist that many viewers had yet to discover.
The film stars Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour as part of a team led by Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ character, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
Originally presented as a group of antiheroes, the team is rebranded as The New Avengers in a surprise post-credits scene. The reveal included a message: “The New Avengers will return.”
Many fans praised the twist as clever and exciting, saying it sets the stage for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Others, however, criticized Marvel for spoiling the ending too soon. “Not everyone saw the film on opening weekend,” one fan wrote on social media. “Why spoil the twist in ads?”
Marvel hinted at the shift with an asterisk in the original title Thunderbolts—now revealed to have been a clue. The studio has leaned into the rebranding, releasing a new teaser and a poster reveal video featuring Florence Pugh removing the old title to show The New Avengers beneath.
Even Robert Downey Jr. joined the conversation, posting a cast photo with the caption: “Big congrats to The New Avengers. So cool, fresh, and deep.”
The film’s updated identity also raises questions about its place in future MCU projects like Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars. With the original Avengers gone, Marvel appears ready to pass the torch to this new team.
Still, the sudden marketing shift has sparked debate. Is it a bold move or a mistake? Either way, Marvel has everyone talking—again.
