Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S users have been surprised with a free download for the upcoming Bethesda game DOOM: The Dark Ages.

While the game is set to release on May 15 and will be available on both Xbox and PS5, Xbox players have a special freebie ahead of the launch.

The freebie isn’t an early code for the game, but rather a new dynamic background for Xbox consoles. This background is designed to get fans excited for the release of DOOM: The Dark Ages.

As with previous Xbox backgrounds, the new one is free to download, though the “dynamic” aspect of the background is minimal—making it feel more like a static image than a fully interactive experience.

There’s no official word on whether this background will be available permanently or just as a limited-time offer, though all previous Xbox backgrounds have remained available.

Xbox fans seem pleased with the freebie, with many expressing excitement in the comments.
